The Action Express team received their brand new Corvette Daytona Prototype race cars on Saturday December 3rd and made their on track debut a mere three days later in Daytona. The Familiar No. 5 and No. 9 racing numbers were now placed on Chevy Corvettes featuring Coyote Chassis. The cars looked very stealth for the first test with no paint covering the carbon fiber black body work. The teams drivers consisting of Darren Law and David Donohue in the No. 5 Action Express Corvette worked closely with Joao Barbosa, Terry Borcheller and JC France as they piloted the No. 9 AXR Corvette around the 3.56 mile road course at the Daytona International Speedway. This first test at Daytona is part of the teams preparation for the 2012 season-opening Rolex 24
At Daytona, set for Jan. 28 and 29.

“Overall, the test went really well. The team performed flawlessly and we had no real issues,” commented team driver Darren Law. “The test was mainly for us to get used to the car – have the crew get used to working on it, drivers get used to running it. We were very impressed that the team received the car on Saturday, we were on track on Tuesday morning and we ran until five o’clock both [test] days. We were the quickest of the Corvette Daytona Prototypes, so we’re happy with that.”

Action Express has several more test sessions planned in the next two months and will work many extra hours over the upcoming holiday season to be ready for the 50th anniversary of the Rolex 24 in January.

“We were pleased with the test lap times, but we still have a long way to go and a lot to learn in a short period of time before the 24,” Law noted. “For our team, it’s a brand-new chassis, brand-new motor, brand-new body – everything is new to us, so we’re on a steep learning curve. But we’re encouraged with the performance and the lap times of the car and all the Corvettes.”

The Action Express Racing team will be back on track at Daytona International Speedway on January 6-8 at the “Roar before the Rolex 24”. This will be the final test at Daytona before the opening round of the 2012 season. For more information on the 2012 GRAND-AM season log on to www.grand-am.com.
